Abstract

To ensure the priceless heritage of the Deccan, and its invaluable contribution to the development of Earth models, an attempt has been made to provide in these volumes a historical review of the development of our knowledge, and incidentally distinguish a few critical turning points in current research, and some important findings in ongoing comprehensive global research activities. At the same time contributions by modern workers focussing on the later developments have also been included to put the whole subject in the correct perspective. The text is amply supported by charts, sketches, plates and maps wherever necessary with adequate material appended as reference.
